[2011] The Long Awaited Magnitude Info Post!

Seattle Quake RFC is excited to announce Magnitude 15.11, an IGRAB sanctioned tournament, open to all North American IGRAB teams. Now in its fifth iteration, Magnitude is expanding, with teams from across North America. In addition, our Opening and Closing Ceremonies will be attended by none other than Ben Cohen! Any and all North American IGRAB teams are encouraged to come spend Memorial Day Weekend enjoying Seattle’s famous food, scenery and two full days of tournament rugby. Tournament dates are Friday, May 27th through Monday, May 30th, with every side being guaranteed a minimum of five matches.

Here is a quick look at the schedule for the weekend:

Friday, May 27: The Quake will welcome our fellow ruggers to Seattle with a welcome reception.

Saturday, May 28: Round robin play to determine seeding for elimination matches and the championship match.

Sunday, May 29: Elimination Matches and Championship Match, a hosted dinner and awards banquet, followed by a very special Kangaroo Court. Following the Kangaroo Court, players and guests will be transported to the AfterShock closing party.

Monday, 30 May: We’ll close out the weekend with recovery brunch on Monday for those that survive Sunday night.

In order to make the tournament as accessible to as many teams and individuals as possible we’ve lowered team and individual registrations this year.

This year’s host hotel will again be the Renaissance Seattle Hotel, located within walking distance of Seattle’s downtown shopping and waterfront as well as the nightlife on Capitol Hill. We’ve secured a room block for the weekend, at a rate of $119.00/night for singles or doubles and $139/night for triple or quad rooms. Block rooms can be booked through the dedicated website @ https://resweb.passkey.com/Resweb.do?mode=welcome_ei_new&eventID=3105878, or by calling Toll Free: 1-800-266-9432, and requesting rooms under the Magnitude 15.11 block. There are a limited number of double bed rooms, so, plan on booking early.

Magnitude has become synonymous with quality rugby and an exciting weekend of camaraderie and community spirit. With Magnitude 15.11, we will carry that tradition to the next level. As part of his North American Tour, Ben Cohen has graciously agreed to attend, and will be part of the Opening and Closing Ceremonies! While in Seattle, Ben will also be promoting anti-homophobia in sports with GLSEN (Gay, Lesbian, Straight Education Network) and promoting local youth rugby in association with Washington Youth Rugby. The Seattle Quake looks forward to hosting Ben and working with the local community organization to make Ben’s visit a huge success! More details and a full schedule of events for Ben will be provided soon. We will continue to update you about the exciting events surrounding this year’s Magnitude, and you can also stay up to date at the official Magnitude website, www.magnitude15.org, follow us on Facebook, and of course, you can always reach us at magnitude@quakerugby.org.

See you in May!
